It’s Christmasssssssssssssssssssssss… almost! It’s the most magical time of the year and what better time to treat the little ones in your family to a surprise visit from Santa. And since it’s Christmas why not go the extra mile and turn your Log Cabin into Santa’s Grotto turning the visit from Santa into an experience they’ll never forget. Stringing up fairy lights and decorating the front with snow and decorations can quickly turn your home office / gym / library into Santa’s grotto.
First things first you’ll need to clear out the current objects from the log cabin. Having a large blank canvas to begin your project makes it a lot easier. If you’ve gotten a log cabin with one of our side sheds this is the perfect place to store all your belongings. If you don’t have a log cabin yet then don’t worry, we’ll go through some of our favourite log cabins which have many versatile uses, one of which is Santa’s grotto.
3.3m x 3m Value Apex Log Cabin
With this log cabin you’re essentially adding an entire new room to your house. Its traditional apex roof seamlessly fits into your garden just as it would on a Scandinavian slope. Two large windows combined with two windows on the door allows for maximum light in, especially when the days are shorter during winter.
The 4m x 4m Goldcrest Corner Log Cabin
A corner log cabin maximises space in your garden, effortlessly sliding into any corner of your garden. With windows facing in three different directions you can have an unbroken view of your garden while keeping snug behind the thick interlocking log cabin walls ranging from 19mm all the way to 44mm.
The 5.1m x 3m Dove Log Cabin with Side Shed
As we mentioned earlier a log cabin with a side shed can really come in handy. The large interior is not sacrificed for the side shed with both a spacious side shed and spacious log cabin interior. With floor to ceiling windows lining the front of the cabin the interior feels even larger.
Setting the Christmas Scene
Getting the exterior ready is one of the more important parts of creating Santa’s Grotto, as it’ll be the first thing any visitor will see. Imagine a candy cane pathway winding gently through softly glowing lanterns, guiding guests toward the big reveal—your log cabin transformed into a festive masterpiece. Strung with sparkling fairy lights and adorned with red and green baubles, the cabin gleams like a holiday treasure. Add wreaths to the windows and doors, frosted garlands on the railings, and a reindeer display near the entrance (As Santa had to arrive somehow) to complete the enchanting scene.
Bringing the Christmas Spirit In
Start with lighting, a warm and welcoming glow spilling out from the interior to the exterior starts the general feeling of hospitality before you even set foot inside the grotto. It goes without saying lighting is very important, although candles might not be the best idea around small children that aura can still be created with some fake candles that produce the golden glow. Once the lighting is sorted, start with a red rug to bring a pop of rich colour into the cabin, decorate the walls with pine trims draping off the walls adorned with any spare baubles not already hung up outside. Ensure that all the decorations lead into the centre of the back wall of the cabin, as that’s where the jolly big man will sit.
A Chair for the Big Man
The focal point of Santa’s grotto needs to be the big man himself and because he’s rather old (born in 280 AD) he’ll need a comfy chair. A large throne-like armchair with a plush red velvet cushioning, throw a few fur blankets over it to really emulate the snowy vibe of the North Pole. Facebook marketplace is a great place to find some more unique furniture for an affordable price, if not head into town and go have a look around local furniture charity shops for a good deal.
Once Upon a Christmas Night
As soon as you set the chair in place the entire room should come together into a magical grotto for Santa. You'll just have to find your most jolly friend to don the beard. Turn the lights on, lay out the mince pies and let the Christmas fun begin.
