EPDM (Ethylene propylene diene monomer) roofs are becoming more and more popular for garden buildings such as sheds, log cabins and summerhouses to name a few. The lightweight and waterproof material make it perfect for a modern sleek roof option. In this blog we’ll go through some of the benefits of an EPDM roof.

Low Maintenance

EPDM-step-one

The only regular maintenance an EPDM roof needs is an occasional check up. Checking for any damage caused by very harsh weather conditions or any debris scattered across the roof should be removed. If there is any damage you don’t need to replace the entire roof. A great benefit of EPDM roofing is all you need to do is remove the damaged area and replace just that part.

Long-Lasting

EPDM-step-two

EPDM is a very long lasting material. It's long lasting nature is one of the reasons it's standard across our Sherwood range of IGR's such as the Harlow 4m x 4m. Expected to last up to 50 years and needing very little maintenance. From the warmest days of summer, the cold icy days of winter or even the rainy months in between EPDM roofing will stand strong throughout the years.

Waterproof and Weather Resistant

EPDM-step-three

EPDM roofing is highly regarded for its superior waterproofing and weather-resistant properties. Made from durable synthetic rubber, it provides an impenetrable barrier against water, ensuring your roof remains leak-free even during heavy rains. Additionally, EPDM is resistant to extreme weather conditions, including high winds, hail, and UV radiation, which prevents cracking, splitting, or degrading over time. Its robust nature makes it an excellent choice for long-term protection, keeping your roof in top condition through various weather challenges. Simple Installation

EPDM-step-four

For those eagle eyed readers who might've already noticed, the photos shown through this blog display the process of installing EPDM roofs and as you can see, it is a simple and east process.

To install EPDM roofing on your shed, first, prepare the roof by securing 2x2 batons along the edges. Lay out and glue the EPDM sheet, pulling it back halfway and applying glue evenly. Smooth the rubber down with a broom to remove wrinkles. Finish with either plastic capping or timber batons and fascias, cutting the capping to fit and pinning it in place, or folding the rubber under and securing it with batons before trimming. Ensure corners are neatly finished as shown in the instructional video. Use tools like a utility knife, roller, and screwdriver for a professional finish.

So even when building your own garden shed such as the 10 x 8 Overlap Double Door Apex Wooden Shed and you selected the EDPM roofing upgrade you can be sure you're up to the task.
